About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Farm house part three

September 7, 2015

My Aunt and Uncle owned a General Store much like this one only they had a small house attached to the left side of the store. The store was a bit wider and longer but similar too. Their store sat next to a river and my Papa Horton would turn the bridge to let steamboats go through. When I walked up on the porch the boards would creek and the screen door would well, make a screen door sound. My shoes always seemed loud walking on the hardwood floors. They had a pot belly stove in the middle of the store and people would stand around or sit on straight back chairs and talk about the weather or farming.

It has been a long time since I drank a bottled soda. I remember when we would save our bottles to return to the store. The store would pay a few cents for the pop bottles and they would be sent back to recycle.  It was not that long ago that this was done.

This store holds many things from the past. In this general store you could purchase goods, get a hair cut and pick up your mail.

I wonder if these shoes will come back in style?

The small postal area.

Place to get a haircut and a shave.

A grinder.

There is a school house...

Kids pretty much had to pay attention in those days.

A lovely little church with a bell and pull rope.

I am sure there many sermons, weddings and funerals in this church. The ladies would have worn hats or bonnets to Church and the men would have removed their hat before entering.

Then there is the drug store. This was the most exciting place other than the farm house because I could not wait to see all the old toiletries in the past.

Next and last post will be this drug store.
