About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. I love the 1940s

April 11, 2017

The first daisy has bloomed.  Daisies make me happy :)

The girls seem to know when I am going to do a post.  This is what I see when I turn my desk chair around.  There is a twin bed in this room and the only bed they are allowed to lay on.  They have their own quilt and take full advantage of using this special place.

We have had a very busy week starting off with what we thought would be a simple plumbing fix which led to a new sink.  We haven't had an extra minute it seems lately and why there are less posts but this is normally what happens here when spring arrives.

Outside the garden is doing well, these are zucchini squash, the tomatoes are getting tall as well as the peppers.

Looks like I need to make some more whimsical yard art as these are starting to decay but even that makes interesting art.

I draw out these figures I call the four sisters and Charles will cut them out for me and then I paint them.

I think I will always enjoy making whimsical art as it makes it interesting while walking the paths in our secret garden.

This is the fourth sister.

A few weeks ago Charles came home and said, "I saw an old rocking chair on the side of the curb down the road.  Someone threw it out for trash to pick up and it is busted up".  I said and you didn't bring it home?  He knows I have this thing for chairs.  He grinned and said, yes, it is in the car.  He made new spokes using his lathe that turns wood and repaired all the broken wood and then I painted it.  Of course this caused a shifting of furniture and several days of me painting the other pieces to match the new old chair.

I painted and recovered the seat of the ice cream chair I use at my desk.

I painted the rocker that Bernadette is in and removed the covers that I had made for washing.  That rocker was green. As I did this it started feeling more like the 1940s in our house because of the color of the wood.

Now it is starting to feel a bit more like the 1940s and that is motivating me to organize even more.

Charles and I both enjoy living a more vintage life.  Everything we do has so much more purpose.  I cannot think of anything modern that I desire to have.  There is vintage and whimsical and romantic touches throughout the house and yard.

I put on the Easter Tablecloth and did not realize how wrinkled it was until I took this picture now I will need to iron it tomorrow.

I did some rearranging in the guest room and changed the quilt on the bed and added a small table and two chairs in the corner of the room.  We had the small table put away so I did not go out and purchase anything.

I put this here with a power strip on the table for family to use when they come with their modern electronic gadgets.  We may live a vintage life but most of the family live very modern.  We all have to find out for ourselves when it is time to make changes in our lives.

Living like the 1940s feels like coming home.  It feels as if we were gone from home for a very long time and finally made it back and never want to leave again.

We were living a very wasteful life and we never even lived large as some do.  I do wish I would have known when I was younger how unnecessary so many things were but there is no use for thinking like that.

We are enjoying life so very much working hard at living this vintage life. There is not much of anything that is easy doing things the old way.  We have constant sore muscles, we practically fall into bed at night exhausted but that makes for a very good sleep.

I am hoping that things will ease a bit soon where I have more time to do posts because we have actual 1940s projects planned.  We are just trying to get our organizing done.

We have made a lot of progress, the storage room has been cleaned out now.  Charles work shop has been cleaned and organized and that was a big deal.  The garden is planted. I have been going room by room sorting, decluttering and cleaning.   We have been doing repairs on the house which we have been doing by ourselves. So that has been a lot.  Charles said last night he can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and feels we have knocked out all the big stuff to do.

We now have fifteen blueberry bushes planted and the Good Lord willing I will be putting up some blueberry's and making some blueberry jam this year.

It is getting time to start supper so off I go, Grandma Donna
