About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Don't get me started on these washers! They are made for people who don't get dirty! I have a top loader no agitator. Horrible. I have to spray everything so it'll come out. Water washes clothes, so the lack of it - yes - barely if at all covering the clothing, doesn't get them clean. And with it all being digital, when the power goes out, unlike a mechanical one, you have to start completely over. What a waste, and that's with anything digital - dishwashers to boot! Yesterday I wanted to soak something. I used to be able to soak and turn it off and come back. I did that with this ridiculous washer and it drained all my water. Sigh! And I said it before. Hot is warm, warm is luke. I'm all for saving power, but not if it's making me wash twice!

Ann E. We kept that machine for awhile and it starting having issues so we happily got rid of it and purchased a used roper and have had that one ever since. I hand wash when I can and use the old roper when I cannot. I agree with everything you said. :)

That’s quite a difference in water usage and also surprised me as I expected hand washing to use much more water.
My mum used to have an old fashioned twin rub and wringer and is always saying how that got her clothes cleaner than the washing machine she uses now. I remember helping to wring the clothes out over the bath.
