This article really hits the nail on the head! It seems virtually impossible to get anyone's undivided attention. Giving someone your undivided attention is really a great gift because it is so rare now.
I remember doing things like Donna said like laying on my back in our front yard and watching the clouds drift by. I imagined what shapes I could see in them. I think children had much more imagination then. My brother had a few Matchbox cars. We would spend hours on the side of the house with those cars. We made towns and houses in the dirt. We never got bored with it. We played outside almost all day whenever there wasn't school. We built snowmen and igloos. My friend had a small hill in her yard so we would find a piece of waxed cardboard to slide down the hill. My brother and I walked to the lake in the summer and we had such a good time swimming alone. There was no lifeguard. We walked everywhere as our family only had one car and my mother never learned to drive anyhow. One of my biggest thrills growing up was being able to get my own library card. You had to be able to write your name in cursive to get the card. It was such a thrill when I finally got it!
It is so true that all of these modern contrivances cost us in so many different ways. It is so easy to sign up for one thing or another online. A person could begin to forget all the things they are signed up for and maybe they are not even using all of the services that they are paying for. I think I will make a concerted effort to get a better grip on where my money is going.
Thanks for all of the wonderful articles Donna. I hope you are resting up and taking care of yourself.
