About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. I have added this link for you to share your photos of Vintage and or Homemade items for those that want to browse vintage and homemade items.

Please limit your writing so there will be room for the photos and for others to share.  If you have purchased a pattern that you have used, please do not share the written pattern due to copywrite, but you can show the item that you made.

* Note, I started another section for Christmas, however this was too confusing and much more difficult to check each one, so I deleted that page.  We can use this page to post vintage and homemade photos of items that you have made or found thrifting or may have been passed down to you. You can still share photos in the blog post forum comment section that pertain to the blog post.

Zipper pouches out of extra fabric or old clothing. White from a sweater that I wasn't able to repair. I save zippers from old clothes.I often fill them with small items and gift them.

A year ago I saw an exhibition of thirties pot holders. I asked if they had any patterns, but alas, not. So I took a photo and made the pattern myself. Have crocheted 6 pairs and give them as gifts. I have of course chosen the recipient's favourite colour. And no, I cannot translate it to English, I'm sorry. Merry Christmas everyone. :)

Sorry for the bad photo of the tablecloth, but here is "vintage" - a tablecloth I inherited from my aunts and use at Christmas, and "homemade" -  a stuffed whale I made for a grandchild.

Sanne G, those are lovely pot holders, the design is very detailed and  would be beautiful to put under hot bowls on the table. :)

Joan S, that is a cheerful vintage tablecloth and I love the whale and choice of fabric :)

My grandson would love the whale!

I've collected a few vintage tablecloths.  I love using them.

Years ago I asked my mother to make me a toiletry bag. She used clothes that I wore in the 1980s. A vest and a very ugly faux leather blouse for the lining. The buttons of the vest serve now to close the bag, the lining is good to keep the bag dry.

I have not only a nice bag to remind me of former fashion sins but also a memory of my mother who passed away a while ago. It is not just lying around, I actually use it because it was made to fit me perfectly.

Ana R_2, thank you for sharing your handkerchief purse.  I love the metal fasteners/snaps and the outside fabric.  The handkerchiefs have the old fashioned patterns. :)

Petra B, you have a lovely keepsake with so many memories inside and out and the love of your mother making this for you.  (heart)
