About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Are we Conscious?

September 5, 2016

Recently my daughter had to get very serious with thinking about toxins and allergens in her house.  My Grandson has severe food allergies and environmental allergies and her allergies have been very bad lately.  Fergie laying on the pillow is the least of their worries.

Every window in their house had blinds and very expensive blinds.  They were extremely difficult to clean and when the sun hit them they made a smell which to me means they are putting out something into the air.  My daughter became conscious that something was wrong.

All of us that have blinds know what a dust problem they can be and what about that smell, that plastic smell?

So she went through the house and removed all the blinds and put up washable curtains. This should help the dust factor and the smell of the plastic. My daughter tells me that funny smell that was bothering her is now gone since removing the blinds.

But what about everything else?

When my Grandson was younger as in this picture, he did not have any issues with tomatoes.  He is now allergic to tomatoes as well as many other foods. Why did this happen?

What I do know is life was more simple long ago. I never heard of so many allergies back then.  We have multiplied the toxins because we have more factories, more plastics, more chemicals.

Everyone seems to want bigger and better and for companies to stay on top they keep changing and making more things.  What about making something with quality?

Have we become addicted to variety? New and improved? Addicted to having something new?  New car?  New cell phone? New computer?  All because it has some new gadget that comes with it?  New smell?

When I look back at old photos I can see how much things have changed. Paper Towels and plastic cups were getting popular at this time.  Did we change too much?

If we look at a common kitchen of today we would probably see a plastic coffeemaker, a plastic canister set, plastic food containers and many disposable items.

Have we moved so quickly into the future have we lost our perspective of things?  Are we not conscious of what is harmful to us?

Since my husband and I have been marching back to the past, we have been trying to rid ourselves of poorly made items and especially the plastic items.

Now I am thinking of removing our blinds.  This would mean sheers behind the curtains like we once had long ago, something simple that can be washed.  No more dusty blinds and all the work that goes with washing the blinds.

What kind of window treatments do you have?  I would love to see pictures of your windows.  Do you have a solution for a blind-less window?
