About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. How do we Cope?

April 16, 2026

Right now we are doing a ww2 study, the year 1942 and when I started this study I did not know that our real time of 2026 that we would be in a war.

The unrest that is going on in our country, and in the world, is like a bad dream that will not stop.  No matter how I try to mentally grasp what is going on today, it does not feel right, my very soul knows this.

I want to say to the people outside of the United States, there are still many good people in this un-United States.  Millions of people here do not want what is going on, it makes me understand more about the people in Germany during ww2 and how we cannot judge the people of a country for what their leader is doing.

We also need to learn from this time that we are in to make sure and take care of our family and home from the very beginning of starting a home and family so that we can survive the instability that can come and go throughout our lifetime.  We must save our money to buy the right tools to do things ourselves and have a nest egg to buy food and pay for the things we need.

I was watching a video on youtube the other day and a lady was showing her lovely small English cottage. She was thankful for her cottage and she spoke in such a respectful manner that I felt the tears welling up in my eyes and I said to Charles, "I want to live somewhere that is normal, I want to go somewhere where people make sense and treat others with kindness".

I miss the way things were, I miss normal, I miss feeling human.  Even if things were hectic or not great, it was more normal than what we have today.

Then I remembered how my grandmother would walk around her garden and I would hear her talking to her plants and chickens.  She had a giggle, a chuckle that she made that I just loved about her.  My grandmother understood so much more than we do today.

"We must be those people, we can be those people, no matter where we live. "They" need "us" to be those people so they can be around people that make sense, that do things with love and kindness.

It is best to go back to basics, I have said this all along, if we do not, we are going to lose our way.  We cannot let robots take over, we cannot rely on things that are not real.  All of this is just fodder for crazy.

Charles foot pedal scroll saw.

Basic means how do we live a simple life without all of this modern equipment? Long ago, our generations before us got by without electricity.

Our generations before us knew weather changes were coming by understanding the clouds and the signs in nature.  We are so numb today that it is difficult for us to be able to see the signs that are right in front of us.

We need to bring this simple back to our homes, right where we are. We need to make it better and we can by checking ourselves.

I have said before that it is difficult to describe "simple" to someone.  To me it means that I can cook my meals,  wash and dry my laundry, sweep my floors, bake bread or a pie and read a book without electricity and do this right here in our home in this city.

This is the kind of simple that we need to learn.

I had a very difficult time writing a blog today, I did not think that I could write one because I am so troubled with the state of our country and our world.  I did have some ww2 info ready for today but I just couldn't do that.  My heart is broken for the suffering around the world that our country has caused. I will never be okay when others are being mistreated, killed, or suffer consequences because of something that our government did.  I know the difference in right and wrong and will never act like I do not.

Charles and I are staying busy gardening, that junk in the background is finally cleaned up as of yesterday.  That area in the background is the compost area and where we had our old gardening fences and post and we made a big mess cleaning up the area. We put up shade cloth for this years gardening since the past several years our garden burned up.  We are using different techniques in our garden that do not look like it would in the past but hopefully get a good outcome.  At no time was or is getting a good harvest a certainty so we do what we need to do. We are using garden tanks they may have stacked large rocks in the past, so we will use what we can to get better results.  I use the old roller chair in the garden for when I need to sit down or push a garden pot somewhere.

I hope to see you in the forum, this post was not written as a political statement but humanity and the damages that war can cause.  We do not discuss politics in our forum.

For this forum my thoughts are about how far do we take making ourselves able to live through what our generations before us did, and possibly difficult times for things that we may go through in the near future.
