I have been away for a few months and I wanted you all to know I am not sick and I am doing well. My husband and I made a decision that we were going to drop our television cable, our internet and a few other things. We simply were tired of paying for these things since these companies raise the bill continuously. We had enough and disconnected.
We found other ways around this. We purchased an inexpensive digital antenna and we get basic television and all we need. We get ABC, CBS, NBC and our public television. This is not like our old television antenna in the past but it does provide us with television without having to pay a bill each month.
I found that I could go to our public library and take my laptop with me and use their connections for free. I was a bit nervous at first about all of this and have not been posting because I am still trying to figure it all out as well as I am so busy!
I had a problem getting my mind settled without internet so I can only imagine what it would be for my Children and Grandchildren if they decided to drop the expensive services. After a few weeks my imagination and creativity came back to me like the old days, and I felt like my old self. I got busy deep cleaning the house.
Some of you that visit my website often know that I am all about living like the past and electronics are not in the past. I found that as I am getting older I miss my family that has passed on before me and living like the past reminds me of them.
My husband and I were tired of the new cheaply made items and we pulled out the old things we had and the items we had gotten rid of we went out and started searching to get them back. At least ones that were like the ones we had.
Old USA made products were well made and you cannot go wrong with a sturdy USA made item.
Our children have been helping us look for the things we wanted to replace and little by little we are getting there. It just feels right.
We are also on a more strict budget, if my brain will let me I will post about our budget.
We have stopped eating all junk food, we only drink warm water and occasionally cranberry juice in a wine glass. We eat fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, homemade breads and homemade desserts. Nothing else, there is no room in the grocery budget for junk. If you leave off the junk we can afford more organic vegetables, butter and other foods.
Another major change we made was to get rid of our central heating and cooling unit. The old one quit running and instead of replacing it we purchased two Sears window heat and cool units and we wish we had done this a long time ago. We have reduced our electric bill drastically.
What we do is we split the use. During the day we run the one in the kitchen and turn the one in our bedroom off because I spend most of the day in the kitchen and living area. Then at night we turn off the one in the kitchen and turn on the one in the bedroom and set it to turn off at midnight. So neither run while we are sleeping. In the morning we turn on the kitchen when needed. This is working well for us and we are not even considering ever getting another central unit.
As I am working through all of this I will try and get some pages up the new things I am doing since I have more time to do a better job taking care of the house, cooking and caring for the pets.
In my pet section you may have read about our handicapped lovebird and cockatiel. If not, look at the top bar and you will see a pet section and find our birds.
I have been putting our handicapped birds outside on the front porch since the weather has been warm and to our surprise our little bird "Bootsy" had two visitors a few weeks ago. I was shocked when I heard another lovebird talking to our Lovebird Bootsy, then another one! I ran to get my camera and on our front porch sitting on the rail were two beautiful lovebirds. They must have escaped a pet store or their home and heard Bootsy as she has been being a noisy bird outside each morning. They stayed around for awhile but then flew away. Each day I put out food and water hoping they would come back but have not seen them since.
I will close for now, take care, Grandma Donna
