About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. The Direction we Choose

October 31, 2020

Sometimes life can be very confusing and as we travel from here to eternity we will experience many very different things.

What is important is that we never settle for not knowing.

I have heard many times, "Well, I cannot do that", speaking of a simple skill such as cooking, sewing, crochet or knitting.  But why not?

If we think about all that is out there in this world that comes from the hands of someone that is skilled, they too started from not knowing how.

We would never be bored for one minute if we made it our purpose to never stop learning.

I love to learn new things and more so I learn to get better at the things that I do.

If we just rely on what others make or store bought everything we could end up being a very miserable person and very much in debt.

It is good to learn by doing, by practicing, by failing and by finding success.

I was not born knowing how to make lace or to even cook.  I had to learn.  I learned to build helpful items out of wood.  I learned how to lay brick and stone, how to plant and grow vegetables which is an ongoing learning experience.

When I first married, I had to learn how to make a house a home and how to figure out a laundry routine and ironing and how to make meals.

Then there were children and this is when we learn that we are responsible to care for and protect our children.  We learn how to nourish them with food and love.  This is when we learn to put our selfish ways behind us and become a loving parent.

Our life is full of choices and we all make mistakes but it is up to us to correct a mistake and move on to a better direction.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we were all gentle people. We can be strong, courageous and gentle all in one.

What is important about this statement is that all we have to do is start being that person.

It does not matter what other people do, it matters what we do.

During this confusing time in our history, we can be gathering knowledge and skills. We still have the time and opportunity to learn because even the most simple things such as sewing on a button is important.

See, we do not have to go to the big things to tackle because if we skip the small things we have skipped some of the most important skills.

The Satsumas are starting to turn so it will not be long before harvest.

There is an order in nature and even this is important for us to learn about because it helps us with our lives.

Our Katherine sleeping in her favorite chair.

Just as our children, it is important for us to care for our pets. It is important to spend time with them and give them proper food, water and space to exercise.  It is important because we decided to "keep" them. They are dependent on us, they cannot do for themselves.  They should never live on a chain or kept outside in inclement weather.

A dog or cat or bird or cow has been given a life and if kept by human it is our responsibility to care for them.

We should learn all we can about their needs to keep them healthy. Knowledge is very important.

We should never be bored.

Can you make a simple cup of tea without store bought tea?  Tea can be made of many things such as this apple tea.

This is the last day of October as I am writing this post.  We have several holidays upon us during this time all the while during a time that we need to stay safe due to this pandemic just as our ancestors did long ago.

There is no reason that we cannot make our holidays special here at home.   We can still decorate, we can still cook that favorite cake or pie.  We can still sing music and we can still feel love for our families.

When my children were still children, they loved how we celebrated holidays right in our home. As their mother and keeper of the home, it was up to me to make it special.  We have never had the need to be social.  This does not mean we were not social, we just never needed to be social because we were perfectly happy being home.

It is all about love and the direction we choose.

If we are one of the many that lives alone then there are pets or nature that could still need our care. There are flowers and soil amending that could use our attention.  There are very simple things that we can do if we just choose to do so.
