About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. So much to learn

November 8, 2020

There is so much to learn while we are here on this earth.  I like to live my life so that I always have something to look forward to.

It is up to each of us to put this in motion so that we do have something to look forward to.

We travel season to season and again season to season.  As it comes around and then fades away it makes room for the next season.  We can work towards and prepare for it to come back again.

If we do our best to learn all we can to understand our seasons then there is always something to look forward to.

I never get bored of learning about nature nor do I of keeping a house a home.

I like to divide and transplant flowers in the garden so there are more beautiful flowers for the next year. I save heirloom vegetable seed with the intention to grow more the next year for the purpose of a good harvest. I did not know how to do these things but by reading and then doing.

I enjoy seasonal changes and especially from exhausting heat to cooler weather. Our summers are so hot now that spring is not quite as enjoyable as once was because I know heat is coming and it seems that spring is much too short.

I enjoy when it is time to move the winter sweaters to the more central area of the closet because I do enjoy wearing cardigan sweaters.  I enjoy changing the bedspread to quilts.

It is interesting and good to grow our own food but for many people it is not possible but the knowledge of what is growing in the area that we each live is important. Learning what food is in season and being harvested in our local area helps us so that we can buy food that is fresh and has not been transported from many miles away.

It is good to know when it is peach season or pear season.  When beans or squash, tomatoes or onions are normally harvested so we can ferment fresh food or preserve food for winter or the months these foods will not grow.

Many people just shop the grocery stores with expectation that the same food is going to be there all year around which often it is but many times it has come from far away. Could we have gotten it locally?

Are you truly living or are you just existing?  Are you embracing where you live even if it is not where you want to be?  Can you make it better right where you are?  Is it just a matter of paying attention, embracing life as it is and learning all you can about the small things?

Have you ever noticed how the sun is constantly changing positions as it comes through our windows? What time of year does it make it to a certain window that barely gets sun?

We have a small stained glass panel in our front door.  Only certain times of the year the sun will shine through the stained glass and the patterns in that glass will reflect onto the wall in our hallway. It is a small thing that I look forward to because it is rarely seen.  Another window will bring sunlight to a picture of a boy with a water vase and the sun will shine only for a short while on that water vase and only at a certain time of year.

It also tells us what season it is and the time of day.

Charles and I both like journals and to jot down small things that happen or are interesting as this is fun to do.  We always look forward to migration times for the birds.

This table above we sit at for meals, we pray here, we discuss our day, we clear it off and fill it with books and make plans, we sometime cry here and often laugh. Some of our best ideas come from this location.

Do you have a central location in your home?

Do you watch and learn about nature?  Watching birds is quite interesting.  My mother loved to watch the birds and she knew the names of each species and the sounds they made.  She knew the time of year to watch for them to come back from migrating south.  She knew when it was time to leave and which ones would stay.

Do you pay attention to these things that are around us every day or spend time scrolling through a cell phone?  There are so many things that are waiting for us just to notice.

We can watch our children grow and our parents and grandparents age and enjoy each stage of their lives with them. We should love our spouses and notice and embrace the changes as we grow together until one of us is gone.

If for some reason they are no longer with us we have them in our hearts and we can remember them and continue to celebrate their birthday and have a remembrance day of when they passed away to their eternal place.  We can put a flower by their picture or urn or gravesite. We can light a candle or look through photos.

I have said many times that knowledge is very important, we are here for only a short time and even though I am not afraid to die, I do not want to go right now because there is so much more that I want to learn.

Life is exciting when we are learning new things.

It is not only learning and knowing but doing is what makes it more interesting.

If we all would live keeping ourselves busy this way we would not need to shop and spend to find happiness.

The older I get I cannot find enough time in the day to do all the things that I could do each day.  There is always something interesting to do but often more time is required for general household work.

Off and on we find ourselves in a situation where we need some recuperating time to mend or heal an injury, surgery or sickness. These are times I use to learn even more and then I have something to look forward to when I am mended. I hope if you are mending right now that you use this time to learn something that you did not know.

I hope you can take something away from this post that will be helpful for you today.  Grandma Donna
