About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Spring Cleaning

April 21, 2014

I have many pages to put up on my blog but I have been very busy spring cleaning.

Our raised bed frames are finally finished. My husband has worked on these over several weekends. He built them where the sides and top take apart. You can remove the top for full sun or put the top on for shade or small hail protection. The sides have mesh so the squirrels will stay out of our greens.

The sage is starting to put out buds and it is always so pretty in bloom.

I have been washing down everything in the house. The bed frames, walls, window ledges and most every surface I can reach.

It always surprises me when I dust the doors and how the small ledges collect dust and dirt.

I even washed my broom because my broom is used for inside and outside.

If you fill a sink or pale with a light solution of cleaning liquid or soap and wet a hand towel, wring it out you can....

Wrap your broom and tie it with a cloth or a large rubber band and use this to clean hard to reach places.

Low down or up high the wet cloth around the broom will pull the dirt to you better than a mop which will just move it around.

Each lamp shade has been cleaned.  I vacuumed them then took them outside and gave them a good brushing.

I used an old toothbrush to scrub off the small corners of baseboards. I am thinking of giving the trim a new coat of paint.

Every curtain was washed and ironed.

Here in the sewing room I removed the shutters and put up sheers and lace and our birds Bell and Bootsy are happy with the change.

The dinning room curtains are put back up and with the warmer weather I have been raising the windows and enjoying the fresh air.

Every room has freshly washed curtains and clean window ledges. That makes me happy.

Elizabeth is checking out her favorite lookout window.  She knows I washed the window.

It was a nice windy day to hang the curtains and they dried in a very short time so I could hang out several wash loads.

I went through the upper kitchen cabinets and straightened up the contents but I still have the lower cabinets to do.  This morning I managed to find time to bake some Apple Ganny Cakes since my husband has been wanting something sweet to eat.  They are a light gluten free dessert that we enjoy with a cup of hot tea or coffee. The recipe is listed under my cooking from scratch section.

I better get back to cleaning so I can finish and move on to other things such as cutting grass, pulling weeds, bathing the dogs, cleaning the bird cages, cleaning the bunny cage, blowing off the driveway and walkways, mending, sewing, cooking and running errands.
