Today we continue the diaries of Lil and Lena. Our first diary is of Lil and Bob. This is during ww2 and the year is 1943. Lil and Bob are in their seventies and Bob does war duty by going to the top of a local hotel to watch for war planes. Lil is a homemaker and the writer of the diary.
Monday April 26. Fine day, watered front lawn - Bob M. called in a.m. - Bob home late 1:45 Easter Card from Ada McK.
Tuesday April 27 Rain all day & still at it. Worked nuco & made jello - Bob home at 1:30.
Wednesday April 28 Rain this a.m. clear in P.M. up town to shop - over to call on Emma in Early Eve.
Thursday April 29. Nice day - Done the washing Bob home late, Bob cut lawns. Triggers Ins. man here - Ruby A in few minutes.
Friday April 30 Fine day - up to 3rd St. store to shop, walked both ways - Bob cut front lawns - Joan got burnt on register.
Saturday May 1. Summer day - watered the lawns & baked a creamy rice pud, had it iced for dinner desert - Bob cut lawns.
Sunday May 2. Fine and warm - Bob at Watch Tower 8 to 10 - a surprise Don & Jeanne up to see us & show us their baby boy.

Continuing the diary of Lena. Lena is in her seventies and a widow, her son is living with her, his name is Richard. This is the year 1943 during ww2.
Monday, April 26, 1943. 48 degrees. Did washing and had some extras Ive been missing. 3 old dresses and they may be used by some repairs. Had to rest after dinner I hate to give in but do feel so tired . I sometimes have to lie down. Later went over street and got a lb coffee and bot a pitcher for milk and a pyrex dish to bake in. Made Richards macaroni for supper in it and I like it altho it is a little longer than I like Got can of varnish staine and 2 brushes 50 cents for all.
Tuesday, April 27, 30 degrees. Did my ironing but took me all day as I dont get started very early and it was so cold I couldn't work. Must order the fertilizer tomorrow and I want to put in peas as soon as I get Richards room done I intended to put the flat white paint on the stains overhead but just couldn't will try and do it tomorrow and perhaps it will dry so I can put one coat of muresco on P.M. Am afraid I wont begin papering this week. The flat white just to cover the stains.
Wednesday, April 28, 1943. 40 degrees. Washed the ceiling in Richards room and last coat I started Friday. Put on the paint on stairs I dont get far in one day but if I keep at it will get it done sometime. Rained a little P.M. but I went over street and spent some blue stamps have still some left.
Thursday, April 29, 1943. 31 degrees. Did 2 coats of Munesco on Richards ceiling and pretty well done in but guess I can rest it off. Hope I can clean the room so I can varnish the wood work next week and paper.
Friday, April 30, 1943. 38 degrees. This is a rainy day especially the P.M. and I didn't have the courage to go out. Last day for the blue points and I had some left but we dont need them all altho Richard thot it a tragedy that we lost some of them. My pen has gone fluie. I cleaned Richards room and got it ready for varnish and paint. Baked beans stuffed a chicken.
Saturday, May 1, 1943 38 degrees. Kind of chilly and I did not mind keeping a fire and cooking the chicken Had fried haddock for dinner with spinach. Worked all forenoon getting the small room settled tacked the border and laid the rug quite a job One room cleaned Hope to finish another next week. Went over street got a lb of Marvo 23 cts 5 pts. a few other things Bis-o-dol and V-8 for Richard Made a little fish hash and french toast for his supper.
Sunday, May 2 1943 This is Wesleys birthday tried to send a card but gave it up he wouldn't get it today mailed yesterday. Intended to write letters but head seemed tired guess I cant stand much especialy being fussed at. Washing and ironing seems hard I dont see why. Seems to be warmer. Fred has written for me to dishcharg his mtg of $200. he lent us. I must see the town clerk.
