About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. The Fall season that was Overdue

October 23, 2019

I wanted so badly to be able to put the quilt on the bed once again.  This was the long hot summer that would not end. Finally we have reached a temperature that I can ease the quilt over the bed.

The Chrysanthemums knew it was fall but the thermometer did not agree.  But they held true and bloomed anyway.

I had pampered them and a few times put them in intensive care with the drought and heat. They needed IV fluids a few times as I thought they were not going to make it.  I believe that we would have lost every one of them had they not had special care due to the drought.

We have a hawk that has been hanging around for a few months now.  I respect our birds of prey and all creatures but for some reason I feel this hawk is looking out for us in some way.

We plan on cleaning windows this weekend. When the seasons change we try and tackle those chores that need to be done quarterly.

As I am typing this I look out on our back porch and notice the garlic that was harvested this past late spring and now the fall garlic is emerging from the soil that I planted last month that will grow through the winter.

This garden bed became a mixture of all kinds of flowers, vegetables and herbs and half of it I did not plant including the turmeric. I set a few flowers out to attract bees and then some basil showed up, then two eggplants, then turmeric, then some thyme.  We have a tomato growing in the bed with sage and on the other side of the sage a basil. The only thing I planted was the sage. I just love how each year our mystery garden surprises us.

Before I forget, I will post this question here from one of my blog readers.

This is from "T" that lives in a corner of Michigan that gets lots of lake effect rain.

Question; I was hoping you or your readers might have some tips on dealing with indoor humidity, without running an air conditioner or electric dehumidifier.

The dehumidifier is my biggest user of electricity and I would really like to
eliminate it, but don't want to risk the resulting mold problems.

Things like moisture absorption packets don't really seem like a
whole-house solution, considering the dehumidifier is removing about
six gallons of water a day.

Opening windows for ventilation is rarely helpful where I live because the air outside is generally very damp.

Sometimes in the summer it gets hot and humid, but more often our

weather is cold and damp. My house is also located in the middle of
20 acres of dense woods, and the shade makes it even harder for the
area around my house to ever dry out. The only time it is "dry" here
is in the winter, when the air is too cold to hold much moisture.

In the summer, the house cools off overnight, then in the daytime if
warm humid air gets in from outside, it condenses on all cold
surfaces, sometimes to the point of literally trickling down my walls.

If anyone has any suggestions for "T"  please send them my way and I will do a post with answers for her or anyone else with this type of issue.

Some of you know that I have Meniere's disease and tinnitis and with that I have very bad pressure in my ears and sounds can be debilitating. This comes and goes such as something that goes in and out of remission. I ordered some wooden spoons to use when I eat when the sounds are really bad and I am telling about this in case anyone else has this disease with this added problem.

I really do like eating with the wood spoons.  Charles made me a wood spoon to use when stirring the pots.  Most wood spoons are too big and clumsy so the spoon he made is just right.

I will start adding some fall touches now to the house now that it is getting cooler and feels like it may be cool soon. This weekend it will be back in the low 80's.

Our Cockatiel Ms. Belle has been once again moved. You might say we have been following the sun. As the seasons change the sunlight comes into the house from different directions. She is much happier in this window since she can look out into the backyard. Her favorite thing to do is to perch on my shoulder as I make the bed or wash dishes.

All week I have been saying I am going to start sewing the bedroom curtains. I still have not started them but we are just at the middle of the week.

I finally got some multiplier onions growing and I hope they do well through the winter. This is one of the things I have always wanted in the garden so I can dig and separate them and plant them all over the yard so anytime of the year I can go out and pick onions. :)

The mums are so bright and cheery and the Thanksgiving cactus will be blooming in a few weeks.

My thoughts for this post....

I am thankful that my arms still work and that my legs still work and I can walk. I am getting weaker as I get older so the things I do are at a slower pace. I am finding that this is not a bad thing to be more slow as it makes me become more organized and understand what is necessary and what is not.

Sometimes we hold on to things because we spent a lot of money on it but it did not turn out to be what we really needed.  If something is standing in our way because of a poor choice that we made we need to correct this. Life here on earth is too short to waste a minute of it. We all make mistakes big and small because we are human.

This can apply to most anything, a small or large problem, don't go to bed without taking the needed steps to make something right.

Do not follow what others are doing, we do what we are suppose to do and if everyone did this we could have a much more harmonious world.  Grandma Donna
