The morning sun is shining in through the windows. Another day to do the best we can. Another day to continue on with the things left from the day before.
This is all we can do, we are just one person and truly we can only do one thing at a time if we want to do it well.
This day will come and then it will go and it is up to us to use this time we are giving to do the best we can.
I feel the best we can is when we focus on just that one thing at a time.
If I have many things to do and try to do them all quickly then I normally will not finish them all and it would not have been done well.
These are long beans that have germinated and have emerged from the soil. There is a trellis that they can grow up and over to meet the other beans on the other side in another raised bed. They would not be growing if I did not plant them.
If we want something, we have to do something to get that something. So the day I planted them I had made up my mind that I would make this a priority and give my full attention and plant the seeds. It is a simple thing but so easy to let other things prevent this one task from happening.
Just think if we could live by this of looking at the things we need to do as just that one simple thing and do that simple task one at a time.
We could have a food forest, we could have all the ironing done, we could have the floors mopped, we could have the windows clean.
We don't have to do this all in one day. We just take one thing and do it and finish it. If we still have time and nothing else pending we could do another.
Many of you that have read my blog posts for awhile know I love Black-eyed Susan's. It is that time of year again and they have emerged as shown above. I cannot believe that we have already made this full circle.
I started them by planting them years ago and they have spread themselves around and given us seed so I can sow more.
This is what happens when we imagine what it is we would like to see or happen and we do the best we can and do that one thing that can make it happen.
Last year shown above, was a magical place to be and I loved to go out just before the sun was set because the yellow petals would glow in and around the paths.
This past year and now this year it has been very difficult for many of us to focus. I hear a lot of people describe how they have brain fog or fatigue.
I feel if we add color and light and simple things to brighten up our space, whatever that is, it helps to lift the fog and fatigue.
Each year we add something to the yard to continue on with our secret garden. Last week we added another arbor for the rose bush that is against the back of the house. Each year we cut this rose bush back because it is a older rose that wants to run and stretch.
I could imagine if we let it stretch over some wire and grow into it then it could become a Rose Arbor. It is doing very well so far, we used part of a cattle panel wire and put two pieces together and secured it. There are already buds on the rose bush so this should be very beautiful when it is in bloom. I feel happy that the bush can now stretch its limbs over and down the arbor.
We will have to start doing some trimming back areas in the garden so it does not get to be too thick with foliage. This cattle tank is filled with seed potatoes and has filled with potato leaves, lets hope there will be a lot of potatoes under the soil.
This is the time of year our English Dogwood bushes bloom. Such a pretty time of year.
Some days are busy and these are the days for simple meals. This is a pumpernickel, roast beef and mustard sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup.
There is much that I may never figure out but I do know now that living in a rush all the time causes more mistakes and poor choices.
The people that I have most respected and wanted to resemble lived a modest life. They were just good people, they spoke quietly and calm and listened more than spoke. They were steady people and knew how to repair things that were broken or build things from scratch. These were people that canned and preserved food. They were prayerful people.
I feel thankful they were in my life because they have kept me grounded even if I am not like them. I am not as steady but I still try to be. I am not as quiet and listen as well but I still try to be.
I hope you have had someone in your life that has kept you grounded.
If we try to do our best with the time that we are given, that is a good thing. All the things going on all around us does not matter because what matters is what each of us do with our day.
It is just a simple thing.
