If we think of the different areas of our home as nourishing factors we could possibly truly organize our homes so that these areas will benefit our needs more wisely. At times we should look at home with a different perspective. Are we using each room for the intended purpose? Do we have clutter? Are we comfortable or are we exhausted due to clutter? Is our home a place of nourishment and contentment?I have had my share of clutter in my lifetime and it drained my energy then and it drains my energy now. We all go through changes in our lifetime and that brings on new interest and then those interest may fade away and something else takes its place. This may leave us with clutter and ev ......
Most every morning and again in the early evening a dove will perch in a particular place on one of the many lines that run across the front of our yard.It will watch and turn its head and has a very good view of many things where it is perched.I am in awe of how very intelligent birds truly are. How does a bird migrate from my house and fly thousands of miles away to a far off place and come back to our house the next spring? How does a hummingbird remember where an old feeder was placed last year and no longer there? How does a mother bird become a pharmacist and collect certain berries and things that only she knows and places them in a small shallow bowl that she has made in a branch and t ......
Our bathroom floor has tile from 1960 and I truly like this tile but the grout will not turn white no matter how much I clean it. So instead of busting it out we refreshed the grout. My daughter told me about a product that she used so we went out to the store to see what we could find. This is what our local lumber store carried. I am not connected with this product, I am just showing you what we used.It said to use an old toothbrush and put the white solution in the grout and it give you a certain amount of time to wait etc and then rub off the access. Our issue was that our tile is very small so we could not do as suggested. I will show you what we did but war ......
The Winter Season can be a very good time to sort, clean out files, shred, repair, mend, read and learn new things. Every season has it's purpose. If we live as those did before us we would be more aware of the seasons. During the month of November I watched this little chipmunk scurrying around our backyard gathering nuts. The little chipmunk( in the center back of this photo) had it's little cheeks full of nuts. It would pack it's cheeks so full that her cheeks would look like someone had taken a tire pump and puffed her out. For weeks she was busy running around the yard then disappearing to her little home. Nature is amazing and if onl ......
We like to open our windows and let fresh air into the house. However, with that fresh air comes pollen and pollution. The window ledges collect a good bit of pollen so I try and keep this washed off the best I can. With only a little water and some diluted pepperment soap an old cloth to scrub rinse with clear water with a dry cloth, pat dry and pop the screen back in place. Looks like my screen could use a good scrubbing too....... Winter is over so I am cleaning the area rugs With my husbands help, we clamp the rug to a rafter under the carport. This is not the traditional way to clean a rug but once a year I li ......
I reminisce often of the past Seems like our generations before us may have been the fortunate ones... Now we are living during an economic crisis and many people have lost their homes due to foreclosure. Many have lost their jobs and are living on the edge of financial disaster. Some are living in their cars but only to find that there are laws that make it illegal to live in a car or on the street. Where is one to go if there is no place that will allow you to set up a small tent or park your car? Some are having their power cut off, not by choice. This is a situation where I hope that they had prepared survival equipment and were ready fo ......
Get Real with Cleaning our houses like they did in the past but now in the present I could write all kinds of organizing suggestions but you have two choices. Hire someone or do it yourself. When our generations before us cleaned their homes there were no fancy appliances as we have today but they did not shy from housework. If we cannot keep a clean house today with all the helpful appliances then it comes down to a health problem or being lazy. A health problem is understandable and if you cannot afford help or if your family is not willing to help then you may have to live in a dirty house. I have no answers for this. But if yo ......
Are Toxic Chemicals in your Home? I am not a Doctor or health care provider, I am a Grandmother that is very concerned with the growing numbers of young people dying from cancer and other diseases. Something is not right and you do not need to wait for the experts to decide what is wrong. When a baby is born in the USA the baby must be put into a car seat for it’s trip home from the hospital. At the time I am writing this article, the typical car seat is made from some type of plastic and has cloth padded inserts that possibly contain toxic chemicals. This car seat is secured into a possibly toxic car due to things inside a average car emit toxins.  ......
Back to Basics, home products This entire page is dedicated to finding products that our Great Grandparents and Grandparents used. I will discuss how I went back to basics and back to using products that our generations before us lived. Take your time and read through this and I will help you sort out how to get back to basics. Our reason to find better products. A few years ago my husband started developing several skin disorders. He first started with an unknown rash on his back. Then he developed psoriasis, then eczema. Many trips to Doctors, prescribed medications, lotions and soaps. His conditions continued to worsen a ......
