About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. I'm very similar to you about electronics.  I never have the radio on in the car and the house is super quiet during the day.  I go to visit people and the TV is on and nobody is watching it!!   That drives me crazy!  I'm happy listening to the birds all day.

Kimberly F.-  Tuesday was always my Town Day.  I loved having that time to run errands and shop.  It was so convenient for planning and budgeting.  We rarely had to make*emergency* trips.  Unfortunately, I have a bad knee/ leg now and I can't do it alone. But I loved my Tuesdays and I look forward to having them back when my husband retires!

Lesley-  I only recently heard about those in house money meters !  I read a book - The Queen and I?  I think it's supposed to be humorous, but maybe you need to be British to truly appreciate it!  Anyway, I had no idea such a thing existed.  It does seem to have it's merits, but the way people behave now would make me fearful for the person going in to collect the coins.

  • I would be too. I do remember the coin slot meters. As I grew older, they began to change them to top up style, where people would go to a post office and have their plastic card topped up with credit, then place it in the machine.
