Catherine is also doing the living like it is 1943 WW2 for one year. Catherine was actually the one to suggest living on ww2 rations (food and gasoline), my husband took us a step further to try and do as many things as we can to "Live" as they did during ww2 for one year. It has turned into quite an interesting history project.
Hi, my name is Catherine, and I live in Farmington, UT. I love Donna's blog, and all the helpful info she has, it is such a blessing. I have to say that she is a real inspiration.
When we started this little experiment in living on rationing, life seemed to have decided to jump up to make it difficult for both of us. Donna has done a brilliant job in keeping going, much as they would have in the 1940's.
This is my kitchen, and my dishwasher. (Please forgive my cabinets; we are in the process of trying to get them ready to be repainted!) I try to do as many of my dishes by hand as I can, but I do admit that I use my dishwasher when I am quite busy at work or when I'm feeling unwell. (I have Lupus, and as much as I would like to forget that fact, it won't let me. Then , I have to adjust how I do things or they just plain do not get done, which is not an option for many things.)
My washer and dryer are downstairs in the laundry/storage room. I have a number of retractable clotheslines that go across the room, and that is where I hang my laundry. I try not to use the dryer very often, mainly just for towels. Because the climate here in Utah is so very dry there is rarely a problem with hanging things indoors. I do have a clothesline outside in the back yard that I can put up. (It's one of those space saving, television antenna looking type.)
To save gas rations I usually take the bus to work. For smaller trips to the grocery store, library, post office I take my little electric scooter here. It's amazing how much it saves!
I've loved seeing how everyone else lives and how you are making your lives simpler. You have all given me many ideas!
