Each day we use things. We pick them up, we touch them, move them from one place to another. We wear different clothes, we brush our teeth, we brush our hair.
If we were like letters written to a loved one we would be words contained on paper but we are not.
Last month I took a week long break from my blog so I could organize our home. It was a lot of work but for the first time I stuck to it to finish what I started. I have never had all the rooms in the house organized at the same time.
In just a few weeks I realized I have a problem with leaving things sit out of place. I don't put it back where it belongs. So now I am trying to make a conscious effort to put it back.
It only takes a few minutes and actually many times it just takes seconds.
That bag of powdered sugar that has been sitting on the counter for three days since making my sons birthday cake. He turned 48 but don't tell anyone. :)
It has a place, this is where I took it from so it needs to go back.
That project I was going to start last week is not going to get done for awhile.
It is best to just put it away where it belongs.
Things don't have to match and we don't have to be perfect but we need and our household items need a place to be.
This drawer might look messy to some but when I need the tools to make things I know where to find them. If I don't put them back in this drawer then that could be a problem.
I can open this drawer and find the scotch tape anytime I need it because this is where it is most convenient for me as well as the scale I use to make laundry soap. But only if I put it back.
It is very had for me to put books back in place but I am working on it.
I love Charles with my whole heart. He is my best friend and the love of my life. We never tire of conversation and creating things together. I am excitable and he is calm. He likes spicey and I like plain. He sleeps hot and I sleep cold. We balance each other except for putting things away. Neither of us are good at putting things away.
When you come into our kitchen you see things like this on the walls. It might not look pretty but it is very functional and when I need to can something the jars are right here. One thing to remember with canning is to pick up a box or two of those canning lids (the flats) when you go to buy groceries because the flat cannot be reused.
Before I go to bed I am trying to put away some of those out of place items.
This is what home looks like. Items that help us to be a little less dependent.
This washer and dryer are the most out of place items in our home. My daily reminder of what year we really live. An HE washer that doesn't clean clothes and a dryer that will shrink and wear out fabric.
Why did we buy this washer? Our old washer wore out. I never dreamed they would sell washers that don't clean clothes, but they do. They remain because I cannot always hand wash clothes ( I could if I had to because I have done it before) and sometimes it just doesn't stop raining.
My dream is to have an old wringer washer, the round one. But then it might spoil me and I wouldn't use my muscles so much. I think it is meant to be the way it is.
This is my solution for a place to brush our teeth when we have guest and we want to free up the bathroom. Just wanted to share that. This would also be good for when there is limited water. It is very easy for me to get off subject :)
I hope this helps in some way. Grandma Donna
