About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Diary of Lena and her son Richard.

Friday, Oct 1, 1943. Well here is Oct. Seems the Summer has gone fast for Ive been out of circulation for 4 or 6 weeks  Think Im feeling as my piles seem to be going away.  Guess now Ill get better.  Cut a little of my cast down by only toes and think it helps gives more room to expand my foot.  Rained fast and Richards got a good soaking.

Saturday, Oct 2.  Didn't do much around the house but got down and cleaned the kitchen linoleum thoroly and after dinner waxed it.  That was my stunt and think Im doing pretty well.  I have cut the bandage on my foot back almost to the bend in the instep. It was so tight it hurt and extended to the base of my toes and pushed the flesh forward so this gives it room to expand.

Sunday, Oct 3.  Nothing especial today  Had the rest of the chicken cooked last Sunday.

Monday, Oct 4.  Did 4 sheets and 2 dresses and some other things and washed the clothes line but didnt have soap powder enough to do it all.  Went over street and paid taxes and water rent for 2 quarters this last quarter it run over between 7 and 800 cu ft.

Tuesday, Oct 5.  Did another washing today making in all a big wash.  My cast is so tight.  Pearly came over as I was sitting resting Seems as if I put in quite a lot of time resting.  Made a bread pudding first for a long time. Started a coal fire.

Wednesday, Oct 6.  Did most of the ironing and went over street   Sent a P.O. order to the Hospital $63.00 and did a little shopping. Richard is better I think but is cross  Has had the intestinal Flu and got medicine from Dr Garritay and think it helped him.

Thursday, Oct 7, 1943.  Washed Richards clothes and a few others have cut the bandage up the front and a great relief but y foot still swells.  Spent the rest of my points for hamburg put in and order Monday Brushed up around down stairs.

End of this weeks readings.  Does anyone besides me wonder if Lena will have any cast left when she goes back to the doctor.  Any ideas why her cast keeps getting tight?  Hummm...

We will continue next weeks with the diaries... Grandma Donna
