This is part two of items in our home that are vintage and also have a good purpose. Go to part one first if you have not already :)
I had one of these cake carriers a long time ago and found one at a yard sale for .50 cents. I was so happy to get another.....
Got rid of the plastic canisters and went back to tin/metal. These have no damage to the inside. I have a love/hate relationship with plastic. It is lightweight but I am not sure that it is good for us.
My husband went back to using handkerchiefs and so did I. It just feels right again.
We changed our drinking glasses. I had to look for some old ones that I had liked in the past. These wheat design ones have a curve in the center, like a ladies waist use to look long ago. :) They feel good to the hand when you hold them, I am talking about the glasses.
And I found some vintage parfait glasses that are the size they used to be long ago and not super sized.
The soap saver is another oldie. You put the small pieces left of a soap bars and you can run water over it at the sink and it makes dish soap.
We went back to the old telephones.... This is the dial phone, yes it works.
But we had to buy one with push buttons because if you make a call that you have to follow along a recording and it says, press two for whatever, the dial one will not take so we have to use the push button one. I really do not like automated calls, something we did no have in the past when life was more simple.
Something very important to have if you plan to live more like the past is a water bath canner and a pressure canner for canning food.
Here in one of my dresser drawers is stationary. Something that is getting hard to find. We did not have computers and email and such in the old days. We wrote letters on stationary and mailed it.
So these are a some very functional vintage items that we use all the time at our house. We don't pretend to live like the past. We just simple live a bit more old fashioned than others and live a bit more simple.
