About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. My Favorite Cooking Pot is OK

March 24, 2017

This week has been a bit different.  I was cooking some beef stew meat that was cut into chunky cubes and it had been simmering and getting low on water so I added a little bit of water and turned the heat up to bring it back to a boil but walked away and got sidetracked until I saw smoke and heard some popping and knew immediately what I had done. I ran to the kitchen, which I should have never left and a bright red burner and smoke billowing out of this pan.  I could have started a house fire being distracted.  I hope I learned my lesson.  I have not done that in years!

Well that led me to cleaning the entire house to get the smell out of everything.  I have to look at what did I learn from this and what was the purpose.  I learned a lot and not sure of the purpose other than....

After scrubbing the pot it finally came clean and I was happy that it was not ruined but all of the curtains were removed, washed, hung out and ironed.

Everything was moved out, washed and put back.

The stove burners never looked better.

And the kitchen cabinets shine.  Spring cleaning was forced on me this week.  I am so thankful to not have a house fire.  I truly am.

This leads me to White Sage smudging.  This is white sage.  It helps to remove odors.  After all the cleaning there was still a smell and Charles said, "why don't you smudge".   So we have this white sage that we use every once in a while when the house feels like it is getting ill.   We heard a long time ago how the Native Americans used sage to bring change.  To rid of bad things and bring in good.  Well we are not Native American but we have great respect for them.  We grow sage but not white sage so we order white sage from Amazon since we cannot purchase it locally.  I actually pray when I use it and thank God for giving us sage to cleanse and freshen.  Some use it for many things and I am sure you can google white sage.

The house will smell a little bit like "Ed" but that goes away after a while.  I always open our windows before I smudge and after I am done turn on the fans.  Ed is a native american that I know that actually lives in a teepee.  He smells like a campfire so if I smell a campfire smell I normally say, it smells like "Ed".

I am very sore from climbing up and down a ladder for several days taking down curtains and washing them, hanging them on the clothesline, ironing and cleaning windows and ledges before putting them back up but I am thankful I could do it.

So anyway, the smell of burnt beef and the smoking sage have gone away, I put out some essential oils for two days and all is well again.

On the brighter side, I thought I would share with you a little bit of spring in our yard.  This is one of our roses called Fragrant Beauty.

Raspberry bush emerging...

Young blueberry bushes.

Blueberries.

Pineapple sage on left, lemon grass on right coming up from a winter sleep.

A pot of snapdragons ready to bloom most any day.

Red honeysuckle, I don't know the official name.

Bridals wreath

Bridals wreath up close

Flowering Quince, it blooms before it gets leaves...

Green tea bush...

New Pear tree leaves....

It is still very early spring so there is much more to emerge and I am hoping for a good harvest this year.

I hope you are enjoying your spring or your fall, where ever you live, we are all changing seasons.
