About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Vintage in the Kitchen

December 7, 2015

The other day I got out the meat grinder to grind some beef to make a casserole for supper.

After I ground the beef I thought about the vintage items that are in the kitchen that have been around for a very long time.

This can opener has been around since the early 1950s and is the best can opener compared to anything made today in my opinion.

This rolling pin and corn creamer are great kitchen items.

The old colander and hand mixer. These items were made to last.

Cast iron skillets are used around our house all the time. We don't fry things much anymore but we use these to make biscuits and cobblers, pancakes and we put our bacon in the pan and put the pan in the oven. It seems to cook better this way.

This grater has been in our kitchen drawers for a very long time. Still in good condition. If you ever find these items in a thrift store or antique store and the price is right it probably would be a very good investment.

A pizza cutter and a potato masher, another two items we use often. We make homemade pizza out of homemade flour tortillas.

This is one of the sifters that I use....

This one is used very often to strain lemons seeds and to use to sprinkle powdered sugar over a cake.

Our canners, the pressure canner on the left and water bath canner on the right.

Then there is the water kettle, the coffee pot which is used every day.

The water kettle is not vintage but it is a very good stainless steel kettle. We drink our water warm for our health and each morning we put filtered water in this kettle and heat the water. I fill my husbands large thermos and he takes his warm water with him when he leaves out. We had an older smaller kettle but we needed a larger one and I actually found this on Amazon so if you are looking for a good kettle they have them there.

My point here is if you are tired of your new plastic made kitchen items breaking, maybe it is time to go to a thrift or antique store and look around at the well made older items.

Hope this helps in some way, Grandma Donna
