About gDonna
The photo is my son and myself. Now days you can get a photo made to look old like this one. This photo was taken when this was the new look.

Harry S Truman was president when I was born and world war II had ended. I grew up in a time when lunch was put in a brown paper bag and a sandwich was wrapped with wax paper. There was no such thing as pantyhose, we wore stockings that attached to the rubbery clippy things that attached to the girdle. Convenience stores were not common and when we took a trip we packed a picnic basket because many places did not have fast food. Highways had places to pull over and stop, some with picnic tables. Vintage Accessories part one

April 29, 2017

I have had a request for further information for the napkin cover and I will include the knives and forks cover as well.

If you would like to make one I will give you the measurements so you can make one.

You start out with a rectangle piece of fabric 25 1/4 inches up and down by17 inches side to side.

It is 25 and 1/4 inches long.

17 inches.

The bottom flap goes down 8 inches and it is 9 inches across.

The side flap is 9 inches and it juts out 4 inches.  You would curve the edges.

the top comes down 8 inches.

You could cut it on the fold so it would be easier to make it even.

This is how it folds.  You would need to make your own bias tape to go around the edge or purchase it from the store.

Shown above is the knives and forks holder..

finished size is about 11 and 1/2 inches wide.  I should have moved the tape measure over to the right another 1/4 inch.

and 23 inches long.  The top part shown here where the forks and knives go into the slots is made of flannel.  The outer part is linen.  in other words the part that is embroidered is the linen.

This is about 1 and 1/2 inches between the stitching for where you put the knives and forks.  This one is very old and each space is a different size so I would use your judgement to the size you need for your silverware.

2 and 1/2 inches from the edge to where the open slotted area where you put your knives and forks.

If you look close here, there are six slots from the top to where my finger is.  This is where the fold will be.  Where it folds up.  See next picture.

It folds up and then the top flap folds down..

I feel this is a bit wide, at least for my silverware of today.  You can just measure your knives and see how long they are and adjust the width of this holder.  Just make sure to leave that left side with 2 and 1/2 inches.  This is layered.  two pieces of flannel over the top of the linen.  If you look above one piece of flannel is 11 and 1/2 inches and one is 9 inches but I would make it 8 inches if I was making another on for my silverware of today.

Here is a close up of the embroidery.
